=============

Spring 2010

Mme. Caruso Parnell’s grade 2/3 class from Alexander P.S. have been visiting the greenbelt weekly to learn about plants and animals, find clay, frogs, and glacier tracks, and generally enjoy the woods.  They submitted the following dialogues for the newsletter:

JA: I watered that tree   OA: So it will grow

BR:  My little boy loves this part.
Mme: What little boy?
BR: My imaginary little boy.
Mme: I didn't know you had an imaginary little boy.
BR: Well, now you know!

Without owning a vehicle, the Roxborough Greenbelt is the only greenspace I can make it to for a walk with my dog during the fridged months of the winter.  It also is the only spot within walking distance that has grass and tree's.  The only other options being a paved school yard, the sidewalk, rocks, or train tracks.

please preserve this unique piece of land in our town.

We live on Riverside Drive.
Our back yard extends into the Roxborough Greenbelt.
In the summer, our back yard is devoid of any city noise such as traffic, etc. The sounds of various birds calling and chirping (while the wind whips lazily through the trees) drowns out any city noise.
With our gardens and our bird feeders, amongst the rest of the wildlife from the Greenbelt in and around our backyard, our senses tell us that we have stepped into a Shangri la, far away from any city scene. Hard to believe downtown Sudbury is only about a mile away!
With life as hectic as it is today, when I need a quick escape, I just simply step out into our backyard to enjoy Nature at its finest.
If your an animal lover, just take a walk beside our property up a trail leading into the Greenbelt to discover rabbits, raccoons, foxes, various birds such as chickadees, blue jays, canaries, etc.
Follow the Greenbelt trail along Junction Creek where you will NOT see shopping carts or rubber boots littering the shores.
In the winter, walk to the top of the Greenbelt by Kingsmount with your children and slide all the way down the long hill.
We actually have photos of raccoons sleeping in the trees right behind our property. The only reason we even knew they were there was because our dog was barking like crazy!
This Greenbelt is teeming with life.
