* Earth Month was a busy time for Friends of the Roxborough Greenbelt
Families came out for some Easter Fun on Easter Monday, April 9th, from 1:00 -3:00pm, at the end of Roxborough Drive, just off Winchester Drive.
Many people came to visit us at Earth Day, at our booth at Market Square, Sunday, April 22nd, 10:00am - 4:00pm.
An appreciative audience enjoyed an intimate benefit concert featuring Sarah Craig, a remarkable young local singer-songwriter. The concert was held Friday, April 27th, 8:00pm, at Innovative Guitar Ideas, downtown (122 Durham). A
big thank-you to Sarah Craig for donating her time and talent,
Innovative Guitar Ideas for donating their wonderful space, La
Boulangerie du Village for donating treats, and
the Rock Roastery for donating coffee. Special thanks to Carrie
Regenstreif for all her help with this event! Approximately $500 was
raised.
Will Kershaw led us along the trails
and and showed us some of the natural history on a guided
walk through the greenbelt, Sunday, April 29th.
* September 17 - 23,2007 : Photographs of
the Roxborough Greenbelt were shown during Cinefest, as part of the
local art being featured by the sudbury Arts Council

* The cast and crew of the Vinyl Cafe donated a
Vinyl Cafe prize package of 1 book and 4 CDs. A big thank-you to
them! All those donating to
Friends of the Roxborough Greenbelt before October 22nd had their name
put in a draw to win this prize package. Congratulations to the winner: Mrs. Lynda Todd.
* Natural Life Magazine will be our media
sponsor. They are placing an ad for us in their 'Green Market
Place', letting people know that we are looking for
donations. The ad will appear
for the next 6 issues (over 1 year, starting in the Nov/Dec issue;
value over $1000). This will help us reach a larger number of
people. In exchange, we will be thanking Natural Life Magazine at our events, and other venues.

* October 25 and 26th, students of
Alexander Public School trekked the block and a half over to the
greenbelt to enjoy nature walks and learn in this 'outdoor
classroom'. The school launched its Toonie Trail fundraiser November 2nd.
* October 29th, we officially reached the
halfway point of our fundraising goal, when we transferred $22,000 to
the City, adding to the $3000 grant already received.
Contributors who requested tax receipts can expect them in the mail in
the next few weeks. Taking into account outstanding pledges and
upcoming fundraisers like the Toonie
Trail, this leaves us with ~$20,000 to go! We received good media
coverage of this important milestone in Northern Life and CIGM radio.
* Crafts and
photographs were sold at the LoEllen Craft Fair, Nov. 9-11,
with proceeds going towards photocopying and printing
costs. Enough was made for printing costs for the next two neighbourhood newsletters, as well as posters for the winter walk-a-thon.
*November 22nd- The Huntington University Communication Society and the Laurentian University Sustainable Earth Club put on 'The Green House', a coffee house event featuring local musicians and open mic performances, with proceeds going to Friends of the Roxborough Greenbelt. Local performers included: Tina Roy, Harris Daniel, Kim and Matt, and Vivki Dykes. A big thank-you to these groups, who took it on themselves to organize this event!
*November 27th - Alexander Public School wrapped up its Toonie Trail. $262 was raised. Thank-you
to the Alexander community for their support! As part of the
Toonie Trail, students also enjoyed guided nature walks through the greenbelt.

2008 * Friends of the Roxborough Greenbelt and the Junction Creek
Stewardship Committee would like to thank the participants and supporters of the
Winter Walkathon, held Sunday, February 10th. Special
thanks to the Sudbury Samba Drum Squad who led some amazing drumming before the
walk, to Rainbow Routes for the loan of snow-shoes, and to all the volunteers
who made the event happen! At least 65 people of all ages, including
representatives of Myths and Mirrors, the Green Party, Sudbury Animal Advocates, Cambrian College (Nature-based Adventure Tourism program), Girl Guides and Sea
Cadets, braved some wild winter weather on the three kilometre walk.
It turned out to be a fun afternoon of winter activities, with all
proceeds going towards the conservation of the Roxborough Greenbelt as public
greenspace. $1819 was raised.
